Ashley left this world when she was 26 years and 355 days old. She left before she had time to fully make an impact. She didn’t get married, didn’t have babies. So, that task…Ashley’s Legacy…has fallen to me, her Mama. For I have to continue her name, and have to do things that I think would make her proud. Although these things may change, for now, these are the things I’m working on.
NICU Easter baskets
Around 2002, Ashley helped me coordinate Easter bags for Texas Children’s Hospital. This was done with much help and financial support from my church group (The Difference at Houston’s First Baptist Church.) She was just a child, but loved helping me and was so involved in the process. In 2013, she helped me put together Easter baskets for the NICU where I work as a nurse. So, we have a history of Easter baskets. In addition, because I love Easter, and all that it means (the resurrection of Jesus, my Savior), I made beautiful Easter baskets for my own kids. In fact, I didn’t stop until a year or two before Ashley died. So, in 2021, I did my first group of Easter baskets for my NICU…in Ashley’s honour, with a tag attached: “Ashley’s Legacy: a butterfly paradigm. Last, Ashley died on Easter Sunday, 2019, so I am working to add something positive on that day. It will never completely take away the grief of her loss on Easter Sunday, but it helps. So, I’m now planning on doing Easter baskets for my NICU (or perhaps others?) as part of Ashley’s Legacy.
